Nebraska hunters can donate deer to feed the hungry

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is giving Nebraska hunters a chance to give back.

Seven processing locations throughout the state will accept whole field-dressed deer to donate to local food pantries and organizations fighting hunger.

The participating meat processors are:

  • Amherst – Belschner Custom Meats;
  • Norfolk – R&M Meats;
  • North Platte – Kelley’s Custom Pack;
  • Table Rock – Den’s Country Meats;
  • Franklin – Franklin Locker;
  • Ulysses – The Butchery;
  • Lindsay – Melcher’s Locker.

Many processors are facing staffing shortages, so all hunters should call ahead to check availability.

Hunters donating deer will not have to pay any of the processing fees.

They may keep the head, antlers and cape but will have to pay any extra costs to keep those items.

The program, Hunters Helping the Hungry, is funded through tax-deductible donations.
