Nebraska inmate convicted of first-degree murder dies at Tecumseh prison

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An 88-year-old inmate died Monday at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said Richard Holtan was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder in Douglas County.

He began his sentence on Feb. 9, 1976.

The cause of death is unknown, but officials said Holtan was being treated for a medical condition.

A grand jury will investigate Holtan’s death, as required by state law.
