LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An important piece of Nebraska football’s defense is going to miss an undetermined amount of games this season.

Head coach Matt Rhule said Saturday that linebacker Javin Wright is “out indefinitely” due to a health condition.

“He should be okay, just he can’t play right now as a result,” Rhule said.

Wright — who played in 12 games last season and racked up 51 tackles and two interceptions — was playing at an “elite” level this offseason, according to Rhule.

Rhule thinks the strength of the linebackers unit will be “fine” but wanted to see Wright have an opportunity to play.

“The outlook is optimistic, it can be resolved,” Rhule said.

Wright began his collegiate career at Nebraska in 2019, where he redshirted.  He then missed the entire 2020 year with an injury suffered in the preseason.

The Arizona native made his debut in 2021 against Fordham, where he recorded his first career tackle.  He played in one other game that season.

In 2022, Wright saw more playing time, making appearances in 10 games on defense and special teams, with a punt block against North Dakota.
