LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Monday morning after an hours-long standoff in Holdrege, the Nebraska State Patrol says.

On Sunday night, the Holdrege Police Department and Phelps County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic assault at an apartment in Holdrege.

During an investigation, authorities learned that 39-year-old Lucas Barrow had barricaded himself inside the apartment, according to the patrol.

Authorities suspected Barrow was armed and called in the patrol’s SWAT team just after midnight.

The patrol said the SWAT team and crisis negotiators made “numerous” attempts to communicate with Barrow, who refused to leave the apartment.

At around 5:20 a.m., the SWAT team deployed tear gas into the apartment, which led Barrow to exit the apartment, the patrol said.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault by strangulation and third-degree domestic assault.
