LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was cited Monday morning after a spite-fueled crash in Grand Island, police say.

Officers responded around midnight to a report of a stolen vehicle in northwest Grand Island.

The 65-year-old victim told police that his son had stolen the keys to his Dodge Ram and drove off.

About 15 minutes later, police responded to a crash near North Road and Old Potash Highway.

The stolen truck had crashed into a traffic barrier.

The driver admitted to taking his father’s truck and intentionally crashing it because “he hates his dad,” police said.

The truck, valued at $5,000, was totaled. Damage to the barrier is estimated at $700, according to police.

The driver was cited on suspicion of criminal mischief and theft.
