LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Two officers with the York Police Department were given a Certificate of Commendation after a man tried to commit suicide by cop.

YPD is praising the professionalism, discretion and restraint shown by Officer Pachner and Officer Meyer on Sunday.

Police say this began when one of them pulled the man over for a traffic violation.

He’s accused of hiding a handgun behind his back and refusing orders after getting out of his vehicle.

Both officers spoke with the man, who they learned was going through a mental health crisis and wanted to die.

The situation was resolved without any injuries and the man got the care he needed.

YPD is also thanking the York County Sheriff’s Department for assisting.
