Nebraska Pro Volleyball announces official team name

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska Pro Volleyball on Thursday revealed its official name: the Omaha Supernovas.

The team announced its name during a press conference at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.

Officials said in a press release that the team’s name pays tribute to “the amazing night sky” found throughout Nebraska.

“Omaha Supernovas both embodies the players on our team and reflects this historic moment in sports,” said Diane Mendenhall, the team’s president, in the release. “Nationally, there is this huge explosive energy around volleyball, and the PVF allows the best of the best athletes to shine brightly here in the United States.”

Nebraska Pro Volleyball has 12 players on its roster, including former Husker Gina Mancuso-Prosoki and former Wisconsin Badger Sydney Hilley.

Omaha’s team is part of the Pro Volleyball Federation, which is expected to launch its first season in January.

So far, six teams have been announced: Omaha, Atlanta, San Diego, Orlando, Grand Rapids and Columbus.
