Nebraska Public Power District’s mutual aid team wraps up in Georgia, prepares for Florida

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska Public Power District’s mutual aid team wrapped up work in Augusta, Georgia, on Thursday after the destruction of Hurricane Helene.

Officials said in a press release that the team will now be on standby to support mutual aid efforts in Florida after Hurricane Milton.

The 15-man crew will set up shop in Covington, Georgia, before heading to Orlando on Friday to help the Orlando Utility Commission.

NPPD’s mutual aid crew responded to Augusta on Oct. 3 to help Georgia Power and its 141,000 customers left without power.

Officials said Thursday that there are now just over 1,500 people without power in the city.

The NPPD crew includes technicians from Ainsworth, Atkinson, Bassett, Chadron, Humboldt, Kearney, Lexington, Norfolk, O’Neill, Plattsmouth and Ravenna.
