Nebraska Public Service Commission approves nearly $5.5 million for rural cell towers

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska Public Service Commission on Friday approved nearly $5.5 million for the construction of cellular towers in rural communities.
US Cellular will receive grants to build 10 towers near the communities of Bancroft, Bradshaw, Clearwater, Garland, Glenvil, Orleans, Page, Plymouth, Rising City and Sterling.
“Utilizing the Nebraska Universal Service Fund for the support and buildout of cell towers has proven to be yet another avenue the Commission employs to help improve communication to unserved and underserved areas,” said commission Chair Dan Watermeier.
The commission allocated just over $7 million to the Wireless Fund Program for the 2024 fiscal year.
The remaining grant money will roll over into the next cycle.
