Nebraska publishes contract with DHS to use Work Ethic Camp as ICE detention center

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen on Friday announced that the state has published a contract for an ICE detention center in McCook.
The contract with the Department of Homeland Security states that the Work Ethic Camp, also known as the Cornhusker Clink, will be used as a federal detention center for ICE.
The facility, which will be managed by the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, is prepared to accept detainees prior to Nov. 1, according to state officials.
As part of the contract, the federal government will pay $2.4 million to NDCS each month. State officials said this will help result in “cost savings” to Nebraskans.
“I’m very grateful to President Trump and Secretary Kristi Noem of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for their strong leadership in securing our nation’s southern border and addressing illegal immigration through initiatives like this,” Pillen said in a statement.
The state has been making modifications at the Work Ethic Camp to “accommodate the arrival” of initial detainees.
Last week, the remaining inmates at the Work Ethic Camp were transferred to other facilities, according to state officials. The contract can be found HERE.
