Nebraska ramps up efforts to solve missing and murdered indigenous persons cases

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska is working to improve investigations into missing and murdered indigenous persons.

The Attorney General’s Office says a newly funded position will coordinate efforts to help reunite families with loved ones and bring others closure.

Grace Johnson was selected to serve as the Liaison for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons.

She’ll coordinate with local, state, tribal and federal entities in reporting and investigating these cases.

According to estimates shared by the U.S. Department of the Interior, there are around 4,200 missing and murdered cases that have gone unsolved.

It says these investigations often remain unsolved due to a lack of resources.

The Attorney General’s Office says funding for this position was approved by state lawmakers earlier this year.
