Nebraska restructures contract of interim head coach Mickey Joseph

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – If Nebraska hires someone other than Mickey Joseph as head football coach, he can return to his previous role as associate head coach and wide receivers coach immediately.

That’s according to the interim coach’s restructured contract.

The contract also clarifies Joseph’s pay increase as interim head coach.

His base pay as a full-time Nebraska assistant is $600,000 annually, but since assuming the title of interim head coach, he will receive an additional $33,350 per month.

Joseph is also eligible for bonuses based on the following outcomes of Nebraska football outlined in his contract:

  • $100,000 if Nebraska football wins or ties for the West Division title of the Big Ten Conference, without an invitation to or appearance in the Big Ten Conference championship game
  • $200,000 if Nebraska football plays in, but does not win, the Big Ten Conference championship game
  • $300,000 if Nebraska football wins the Big Ten Conference championship game
  • $150,000 if Nebraska football plays in any bowl game not part of the College Football Playoff
  • $250,000 if Nebraska football plays in any CFP bowl game
  • $300,000 if Nebraska football plays in a CFP semifinal bowl game
  • $350,000 if Nebraska football plays in, but does not win, the CFP national championship game
  • $650,000 if Nebraska football wins the CFP national championship game
