Nebraska seeing rise in flu cases, Lincoln also seeing spike

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Flu cases are on the rise across the state, according to latest data published by the Department of Health and Human Services.

The DHHS said it saw a 6.4% increase in cases during the week of Feb. 3.

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department also said it has seen a spike in cases so far this year.

LLCHD reports 573 cases so far in 2024, while it only saw 807 in all of 2023.

CHI Health said that number of cases could still go up for a while.

“We’re starting to see higher flu numbers in February that are continuing to rise this month” CHI Health Nurse Practitioner Jen Heusinkvelt said. “We are unsure if we met our peak, but flu season is considered to go until April.”

Heuseunkvilt said numbers peaked last year around November and December.

The health clinic is also recommending the flu shot to anyone who has not yet received one.

CHI offers flu shots at their locations throughout Nebraska. You can also receive the shot at many pharmacies and primary healthcare providers.
