Nebraska state parks are ready for the summer

It’s been three months since the extreme flooding in Nebraska.
The flooding took out homes and businesses and destroyed state parks and lakes.
Nebraska Parks and Rec. worked hard to make sure those sites were available for the summer.
The Game and Parks Commission had a goal to have the recreation areas open by Memorial Day weekend, and now almost all lakes and states parks across Nebraska are back open.
“It was a state-wide impact. All the areas got equal focus and attention. We still have a few areas that remain under water, especially in the Missouri river water,” Jim Swenson, Game and Parks, said.
A lot of people are wondering if the water is safe. The water is tested every week, and it’s all safe.
“We have to be approved with an inspection report before we reopen beaches and areas where the public can get into the water. We did that, and we passed those tests,” Swenson said.
Parks and rec. still meets every week to discuss flood recovery and how the parks are looking. Thanks to the plan they set in place, and still implement today, people can enjoy Nebraska’s beauty all over the state.
