Nebraska State Patrol arrests one after pursuit

The Nebraska State Patrol, along with other law enforcement officials from different agencies worked together to take a man into custody following a pursuit Sunday morning.

It happened around 6:45 a.m. Sunday, NSP says a trooper was called to a welfare check on a Chevrolet pickup that was stalled in the middle of Highway 91 near Howells.

The trooper reportedly made contact and noticed a male driver unconscious with blood coming from his left ear.

The trooper then attempted to wake the driver and requested a rescue squad to attend to him.

NSP says the driver awoke and drove away from the scene.

That’s when the pursuit started, the trooper followed the vehicle on several roads and into the town of Clarkson.

The driver continued back to Highway 91 and then used various county roads.

NSP discontinued the pursuit, out of concern for the driver’s dangerous driving.

Around 30 minutes later, the man’s vehicle was found in Stanton County, troopers resumed the pursuit.

The truck eventually entered an alfalfa field and drove into a ditch, where it became high-centered.

NSP reports the driver refused to obey commands from officers.

A trooper then deployed a taser, and the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect, 42-year-old Bran Knust, of Howells, was arrested for willful reckless driving, felony flight to avoid arrest, criminal mischief and driving under the influence.

He was booked in Platte County Jail on charges from Colfax County.

Sheriff’s deputies and Stanton and Colfax counties assisted in the pursuit and arrest.
