Nebraska State Patrol disposes of multiple old explosive devices

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Three old military devices recently found in different homes throughout Nebraska have been safely destroyed.
The devices were found within four days in Dodge, Antelope and Sheridan Counties.
“Explosive devices can be extremely dangerous,” Trooper Gabe Skalka, commander of the Nebraska State Patrol bomb squad, said in a press release. “If you ever find anything like any of these items, call the authorities immediately and do not attempt to move it. Our teams can be called-in to handle and dispose of the items in a safe manner.”
All devices were determined to be live or have the potential to detonate and were taken to a safe location to be destroyed.
A resident of Fremont found a grenade in the belongings of a deceased relative on Thursday.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office contacted the bomb squad after being notified of the grenade.
On Sunday, the Antelope County Sheriff’s Office informed the bomb squad that they had been notified of old military equipment at a home in Oakdale.
Crews determined that the device was a practice bomb.
On Monday, the bomb squad was notified by the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office that a cannon round was believed to have been found in Rushville.
The device was identified as an artillery projectile fuse. The fuse was thought to be a live device.
Members of the National Guard explosive ordnance disposal unit traveled with the State Patrol bomb squad to Rushville to handle the device.
