Nebraska State Patrol encourages driver safety during harvest season
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska State Patrol is urging drivers to watch out for agriculture equipment while traveling during harvest season.
In a press release Tuesday, Capt. Martin Denton – the commander of the patrol’s carrier enforcement – said motorists should stay alert for “slow-moving” ag machinery.
“Due to their dimensions and loads, operator visibility is often reduced, so we urge drivers to be cautious when approaching, following, or attempting to pass farm vehicles,” he said.
Ag producers across the state have a harvest permit to move their products to market, the patrol said.
Haulers are asked to conduct pre-trip inspections, follow traffic safety laws, display warning signs on machinery and use flashing yellow caution lights when traveling.
