Nebraska State Patrol investigating officer involved shooting in Sioux City

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating a South Sioux City Police Department officer-involved shooting.
Around 7:50 p.m. on Thursday, officers responded to a call of a possible overdose in an apartment complex near Klasey Park.
Paramedics had already responded to the call, but they were forced to evacuate the location after a suspect pulled out a gun, the state patrol said.
When officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, he fired at them in the hallway.
An officer then returned fire, striking the man, according to the state patrol.
The suspect was identified as Richard Germek, 61, of South Sioux City.
He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
Germek was lodged in Dakota County Jail following treatment at the hospital. Charges against him are pending.
The South Sioux City Police Department has requested the Nebraska State Patrol investigate the incident. No officers were injured during the incident.
