Nebraska state treasurer resigns; Gov. Jim Pillen looking for replacement

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Gov. Jim Pillen is looking for a new Nebraska state treasurer.

In a press release Wednesday, Pillen said he is accepting applications for the position after Treasurer John Murante submitted his resignation.

Murante’s last day is Sept. 18.  He will become director of the Nebraska Public Employees Retirement Systems.

Pillen said he is looking to replace Murante as soon as possible.  The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. next Wednesday.

Applications can be submitted through the state’s website or by mail to: Office of the Governor, P.O. Box 94848, Lincoln, NE 68509-4848.

Whoever Pillen picks will finish Murante’s elected term, which runs through 2026.
