Nebraska state troopers seize multiple drugs, guns in traffic stops on I-80

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Three were arrested after troopers found multiple drugs and guns in separate traffic stops on Interstate 80.

The first stop happened around 11:20 a.m. on Sunday. A trooper pulled over a Toyota Tundra for a registration violation near North Platte.

The trooper smelled marijuana and began a search of the vehicle, NSP said.  The search yielded a small amount of marijuana, 93 tabs of LSD, a handgun and a shotgun.

The driver, 24-year-old Deandre Young of Puyallup, Washington, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, possessing a concealed weapon, possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm.

Young was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail.

The second stop happened around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. A trooper pulled over a speeding Mercedes sedan near Grand Island.

Troopers then searched the vehicle after smelling marijuana, NSP said.

During the search, they found 500 oxycodone pills, over 80 Adderall pills, over 60 alprazolam pills, 20 ounces of liquid codeine and a half-pound of marijuana.  A handgun was also found.

The driver, 21-year-old Lydia Newton of Vanderbilt, Pennsylvania, and passenger, 22-year-old Kayla Knabenshue, were arrested.

They were both arrested on suspicion of possessing controlled substances, possessing with intent to distribute, possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony and other charges.

Newton was also cited on suspicion of having no operators’ license and speeding, according to NSP.

Both were lodged in the Hamilton County Jail.
