Nebraska Task Force One returns home after two weeks in Texas flood zone
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska Task Force One returned to Lincoln on Tuesday afternoon after being deployed to floods in Texas.
Forty-five crew members spent two weeks in Kerr County, Texas, which bore the brunt of flooding that killed 134 people.
“The bulk of our operations was really getting in those debris piles and looking for people,” said Coby Werner, a battalion chief in the Omaha Fire Department.

They walked up and down the riverbed, sorting through every pile of debris, covering up to 14 miles a day.
According to members of Task Force One, one of the biggest challenges they faced was the heat.
“I hope our efforts down there helped provide some closure for the families that’ve just been through so much,” Werner said.
