LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Troopers chased a teen on Interstate 80 on Friday after he stole a pickup truck in North Platte, the Nebraska State Patrol says.

Around 4:45 p.m., a trooper pulled over the stolen pickup, which was seen speeding near Gothenburg.

But the driver, a 17-year-old Hastings boy, drove off as the trooper got out of his vehicle, the patrol said.

A Dawson County sheriff’s deputy tried bringing the vehicle to a halt with stop sticks but was unsuccessful.

The teen drove over another set of stop sticks near Kearney and came to a stop on a median, the patrol said.

The teen was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including flight to avoid arrest and theft by unlawful taking.
