LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska football is heading to Champaign, Illinois, on Friday for the Huskers’ third conference matchup of the season.

Head coach Matt Rhule said Monday that the Huskers need to play with confidence after the 45-7 loss to No. 2 Michigan.

“All I want our guys to do is play football with confidence,” he said. “I don’t want them playing football afraid to lose.”

Illinois and Nebraska are going into Friday’s matchup with 2-3 records.  Both teams have lost their two conference games so far this season.

Last year, Nebraska lost 26-9 against Illinois at Memorial Stadium.

But Rhule said the Huskers shouldn’t overthink everything surrounding the game but, instead, just play.

“We have guys that I believe on our team that can absolutely wreck a game, and I want to see them wreck the game,” he said.

Rhule doesn’t want the Huskers to accept losses and quoted legendary NFL coach Bill Walsh.

“Champions behave like champions before they’re champions; they have a winning standard,” he said. “So, I want a winning mindset.”
