Trooper Kyle McAcy was responding to that crash when he was hit by a snowplow, according to the patrol. He was standing outside his cruiser.
Other troopers tried to save him, but the patrol said he died on scene.
“Our NSP family is devastated today,” Col. John Bolduc, superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol, said in a press release. “Kyle was a dedicated trooper, a devoted public servant, and most importantly a good friend to many in Omaha and beyond. His loss is being felt by countless people. Please keep his family, friends, colleagues, and community in your hearts as they deal with this unimaginable loss.”
McAcy, 31, had been with the state patrol for 10 years.
He was stationed in Omaha and worked in the patrol division, carrier enforcement and crisis negotiation.
The patrol has asked the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the crash investigation.
More information is expected to be provided at a press conference at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
