Nebraska troopers ticket 116 for speeding in construction zones during campaign

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska troopers made sure drivers were following the rules of the road near construction zones in a recent enforcement campaign.
The Nebraska State Patrol’s campaign began on June 1 and ended on Sept. 30.
During that time, extra troopers were on patrol in and around construction zones, thanks to a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office.
“These efforts are important, not only for the motoring public, but also for the crews working in these construction zones,” Col. John Bolduc, superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol, said in a press release. “As the summer driving season transitioned into fall driving across Nebraska, many construction projects remain ongoing. We urge all drivers to focus attention on the road at all times, avoid distractions, always drive sober, and wear your seatbelt.”
Troopers in central Nebraska arrested four people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the patrol.
In addition, troopers cited three for reckless driving, 100 for speeding, five for open alcohol containers and three for not wearing a seat belt.
Of those ticketed for speeding, 40% were going at least 16 mph over the speed limit, the patrol said.
And northeast Nebraska troopers arrested two on suspicion of driving under the influence and ticketed 16 for speeding.
