Nebraska volleyball and 1890 host clinic for young athletes

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Saturday, over 300 girls from 3rd to 8th grade, laced up their sneakers and hit the hardwood for the second annual Nebraska Spring Volleyball camp at the Kinetic Sports Complex.

The camp gives local young players the opportunity to learn from their Husker volleyball idols and grow the love of the game.

Nebraska middle blocker Rebekah Allick said the event helps her stay grounded.

“I think we can tend to get caught up in our own schedules and kind of our own aspirations with the sport and our own career,” Allick said. “So to come back to the community, that is really fueling why we do what we do and meet the people who are selling out our stadium.”

Participants were lined up eager to get ready and hit the floor alongside a Nebraska volleyball player.

Each girl was given a different colored wrist band that represented which station they would start at and which Husker they would learn from.

“I’m going to be holding down the blocking station, but I think Bergen will be holding down setting. Were just kind of offering an opportunity for the girls to really meet the players one on one,” explained Allick.

The girls got the chance to rotate between each station and learn from the best players in the country like Bergan Reilly, Lexi Rodriguez, Laney Choboy, Merritt Beason, Harper Murray and Skyler Pierce.

Bonnie Ott, whose daughter and nieces participated in the camp, said it’s amazing to see these girls get the opportunity to learn from the best.

“Nebraska volleyball players are phenomenal athletes, but they’re even better people,” said Ott. “There’s nobody better that I would want my daughters to look up to, it’s wonderful.”

After about two hours, the girls lined up for autographs and pictures with the team, capping off an unforgettable experience.
