Nebraska volleyball falls to No. 2 in AVCA poll despite undefeated weekend

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Despite a dominant weekend against three opponents, the Huskers fell in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.

The team played and won three games, but all three were against unranked opponents.

Nebraska, who began the season with a No. 1 ranking, did not drop a single set to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Tulsa and Pepperdine.

The Huskers now sit in the No. 2 spot in the AVCA poll, behind Texas, which spent the weekend in back-to-back matchups against No. 7 Ohio State.

The Longhorns dropped only one set in those two matches.

Two former Huskers, Kayla Caffey and Keonilei Akana, transferred to the Longhorns during the offseason.

Akana’s weekend saw her pick up four assists, eight digs and one point against the Buckeyes.

Fifth-year senior Caffey had one kill and two points.

Nebraska and Texas will not meet in the regular season, but the Longhorns will face another Big Ten opponent when they play No. 4 Minnesota on Wednesday.

The undefeated Huskers will return to the court on Thursday to take on Loyola Marymount at the Devaney Center.
