Nebraska wildfire destroys 2,000 acres near Broken Bow
Four homes were threatened by the blaze, but only a single abandoned shed was lost

CUSTER COUNTY, Neb. (KLKN) – Nearly 20 fire departments banded together to stop a wildfire that threatened four homes in Custer County on Saturday.
According to officials, around 2,000 acres were burned, but only a single abandoned shed was lost. There were no injuries.
Aircrafts were brought in to assist the 175 firefighters and EMS personnel.
Lindsay Stern, a resident of Custer County, was forced to evacuate her home, and the flames quickly overtook the land around her house. “All considered, I was very, very fortunate to come back to what I did, because I wasn’t sure if there was going to be anything to come back to,” said Stern. Firefighters and the aerial support saved her house. “Thank you feels like very insufficient words for what they did for me. If they wouldn’t have all been here, my home wouldn’t be here either.”
The fire began as a grass fire around noon on Jan. 29.
