Some Nebraska wildlife experts don’t agree with killing the Omaha mountain lion

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska Wildlife Rehab said a lot of people have been asking about its stance on the mountain lion making its way through Omaha.
The nonprofit said it would never condone the killing of a mountain lion that doesn’t pose a threat to people.
The rehab believes nonlethal methods are the way to go, as they’ve been proven to work throughout the country.
But it understands the difficulty state and local agencies are dealing with, noting that more than 97% of the land in Nebraska is privately owned, so there’s not much room to release a captured cougar.
The nonprofit said the mountain lion is behaving “perfectly” right now.
So far, it’s avoiding humans, only traveling at night, and hasn’t hurt anyone or caused any damage.
The mountain lion’s behavior suggests that it will not stay in the Omaha area if it’s given time to move on, the rehab said.
