Nebraska ‘will not comply’ with new Title IX rules, Pillen says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Gov. Jim Pillen said Friday that Nebraska “will not comply” with changes to Title IX.
“The Biden administration’s rewrite of Title IX is an affront to the commonsense idea that men do not belong in women’s only spaces,” Pillen said in a press release.
Title IX is a 1972 law that prohibits sex discrimination in education.
In April, the Department of Education finalized a policy that expands the law to also prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
The change is set to go into effect on Aug. 1.
Opponents have said the new rules are illegal and will allow transgender students to use locker rooms and play on teams that don’t correspond with their sex at birth.
“Protecting our kids and women’s athletics is my duty,” Pillen said in the release. “The President’s new rules threaten the safety of women and their right to participate in women’s sports. Nebraska will not comply. We must fight against radical gender ideology and vigorously protect the rights of Nebraska women and girls.”
