Nebraska woman loses thousands after falling victim to a romance scam

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Grand Island Police are investigating a scam that tricked a 51-year-old woman out of thousands of dollars.

They say she fell victim to an online romance trap.  The woman made a report on Tuesday, saying she sent an unknown person $22,000 to $24,000 worth of gift cards.

This happened between the months of March and July.  GIPD says a bank or credit card company may help victims recover their money.

But they admit victims usually suffer a monetary loss.
