Nebraska women fall to Iowa in overtime of Big Ten title game

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Huskers lost the Big Ten championship Sunday in a nailbiter in Minneapolis.
Nebraska women’s basketball fell 94-89 to No. 3-ranked Iowa.
The Huskers outshot the Hawkeyes 45% to 34% in the first half.
But the tide turned in the second half, when Iowa shot 55% to Nebraska’s 31%.
The Huskers had the upper hand for most of the first half, leading for all but 2½ minutes.
Natalie Potts put up 12 points in the half, including 4 from the free-throw line.
Nebraska took a 46-35 into halftime.
Iowa fought back late in the third quarter, going on a 8-0 run to go up 53-52.
Nebraska responded with a jumper by Potts to regain the lead.
With less than a minute left in the third, Clark sank a 3-pointer, but Alexis Markowski quickly scored 3 for Nebraska.
Two free throws by Clark tied the game at 58 at the end of the quarter.
The teams traded blows throughout the fourth quarter.
About midway through, Callin Hake and Logan Nissley made consecutive 3-pointers for the Huskers.
Then Markowski made two straight layups, putting Nebraska up 73-67 with less than four minutes to play.
But two late 3-pointers helped Iowa close the gap and tie the game at 77 with 29 seconds left.
Nebraska ran out of time to score, sending the game to overtime.
The Huskers had a 7-0 run in the extra period, but the Hawkeyes eclipsed that with three 3-pointers.
Nebraska was down by 4 with 29 seconds left, and Iowa’s Gabbie Marshall blocked a Nissley 3-point try.
Seconds later, Markowski made a layup to cut Iowa’s lead to 2 points.
But the Hawkeyes made three free throws to ice the game.
Markowski led Nebraska with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
Potts added 21 points, Shelley scored 16 and Nissley had 13.
Shelley also had 13 assists.
