Nebraska women upset No. 17 Maryland in convincing fashion

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska women’s basketball team took care of business on the road Thursday night, upsetting No. 17 Maryland 91-71 in College Park.
The Huskers started out slow, getting outscored by the Terrapins 29-18 in the first quarter. But Nebraska rattled off 55 points in the second and third quarters to pull ahead.

Nebraska put on a solid shooting performance from the floor, shooting 51% compared with Maryland’s 41%.
Alexis Markowski led the Huskers with 20 points while also grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds. Alberte Rimdal added 15 points, while Britt Prince tallied 13.
Prince also managed the offense at an efficient rate, dishing out a team-high eight assists.
The Terrapins only had one scorer put up a double-digit performance, with Shyanne Sellers racking up 23 points.
Nebraska held reigning Big Ten Player of the Week Kaylene Smikle to only 8 points on 2-for-10 shooting.
Saylor Poffenbarger led Maryland in rebounds with five, while Sellers dished out a team-high four assists.
The Huskers led Maryland is almost every statistical category, including outrebounding the Terrapins 42 to 25.
With Thursday’s win, the Huskers clinched a berth in the Big Ten women’s basketball tournament.
Nebraska will return to action on Sunday as the Huskers travel to Illinois to take on the Fighting Illini at 4 p.m.
