Nebraska women’s basketball falls short against No. 12 Ohio State

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska women’s basketball team saw its five-game winning streak snapped Sunday, falling 72-66 to No. 12 Ohio State at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Huskers jumped out to a 21-17 lead after the first quarter, but couldn’t keep up with Ohio State’s offense the rest of the way.

Ohio State shot an even 50% from the floor compared to Nebraska’s 38%. The Buckeyes also shot 35% from behind the arc, while the Huskers struggled, shooting 26%.

Alexis Markowski led the Huskers with 18 points and six rebounds, and says Sunday was a disappointing loss.

“We had a lot of fans here today and we really wanted to win for them,” said the senior. “I thought we fought really hard, and I thought we really came together.”

Callin Hake was the only other player to score in double figures and she’s ready for the Huskers two game road trip.

“Our response to this loss is very important as we go play two tough road games,” said Hake. “I’m excited to get back in the gym and learn from this loss and go get two road wins.”

Logan Nissley led Nebraska in assists with five. Hake and Britt Prince each had a team-high three steals.

Ohio State was led by Taylor Thierry with 23 points, while Cotie McMahon had 15 and Madison Greene had 11.

McMahon also tallied 10 rebounds, with Elsa Lemmila racking up nine boards.

The Huskers will hit the road on Thursday to take on Purdue.

That game will tipoff at 6 p.m. on Big Ten Plus.
