Nebraska’s Brett Sears honored as regional Player of the Year

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska baseball announced Friday that Brett Sears was named Player of the Year in District 6 of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The senior pitcher is the ninth Husker in program history to be named District Player of the Year, and the second in a row after Max Anderson in 2023.
After winning Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, Sears was given First-Team All-Big Ten honors and is a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and National Pitcher of the Year.
Sears had a breakout 2024 campaign, ranking fifth nationally with a 2.16 ERA and 0.88 WHIP.
He also ranked 19th in strikeout-to-walk ratio and 20th in hits allowed per nine innings.
Sears is the first Nebraska pitcher since at least 1999 to reach a 9-0 record on the mound, and the first since 2008 to have 100-plus strikeouts.
