Nebraska’s comeback effort falls short against Maryland; losing streak extends to four

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska men’s basketball team had its comeback efforts fall short on Sunday, losing 69-66 on the road against Maryland at the XFINITY Center.

The Terrapins extended their lead to nine with 5:05 left to play in the second half. The Huskers then went on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 66 with 40 seconds left, but couldn’t finish it out.

Nebraska out shot Maryland, shooting 46.6% compared to Maryland’s 44.8%. The Huskers struggled from the free throw line, shooting 54.5%.

The Huskers also outrebounded the Terrapins 36-32, and racked up nine second-chance points in the process.

Andrew Morgan led the Huskers with a season-high 17 points while shooting 7-for-12 from the floor. Those 17 points put him over 1,000 career points in his career.

Juwan Gary also marked 1,000 points in his career. He finished the game with six points and a team-leading seven boards.

Brice Williams racked up 14 points, but went 0-for-3 from deep and only made one trip to the free throw line.

Ahron Ulis ran the offense with high efficiency, tallying 10 assists, a career-high.

The Terrapins were led by Ja’Kobi Gillespie with 22 points. Rodney Rice racked up 15 points, while Selton Miguel tallied 13.

Julian Reese led the team in rebounds with 10, while Gillespie totaled five assists.

Nebraska will head back home and try to break its four-game skid on Wednesday against USC at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Tipoff for that game will be at 8 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
