Nebraska’s Fred Hoiberg named Big Ten co-Coach of the Year

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg was named the Big Ten co-Coach of the Year on Tuesday.

Hoiberg led the Huskers to a 22-9 record, which included wins over No. 1 Purdue and No. 6 Wisconsin.

Nebraska also had an 18-1 record at Pinnacle Bank Arena and secured the No. 3 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.

Hoiberg is sharing the award with Purdue head coach Matt Painter.


Hoiberg is the second Nebraska coach to earn the accolade.  Former Husker coach Tim Miles was given the award in 2014.

Nebraska guard Keisei Tominaga was picked by coaches as a second-team All-Big Ten selection.  He earned third-team All-Big Ten honors from the media.

Tominaga averaged 14.6 points in 29 games this season.  He also shot 37% from behind the arc.

Husker forward Rienk Mast was selected by coaches as a third-team All-Big Ten honoree.

The Netherlands native averaged 12.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3 assists per game.

Forward Josiah Allick is one of the conference’s sportsmanship award nominees.


Nebraska returns to the court on Friday for a quarterfinal match in the Big Ten Tournament.

The Huskers will play either Indiana, Penn State or Michigan.  That game is being broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
