Nebraska’s Hope Crisis Center looking for donations after losing funding

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) –The Hope Crisis Center in Beatrice is looking for donors after it lost federal funding earlier this year.

On Thursday, the community gathered for Big Give Gage County, an annual event where people can donate to local nonprofits.

By 5:20 p.m., $275,453.86 had been raised for Gage County nonprofits.

The Hope Crisis Center, which helps victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, participated in the event to make up for the lost funds.

“Unfortunately, we have received a cut on the Victims of Crime Act funding at the federal level,” Carmen Hinman, the nonprofit’s executive director, said. “So, for our organization alone, that’s been a $122,000 cut for this fiscal year.”

People have until midnight to donate through Big Give Gage County.  You can also send donations via the nonprofit’s website.
