Nebraska’s Lexi Rodriguez honored as Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska senior libero Lexi Rodriguez was honored on Monday as this week’s Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.

This is Rodriguez’s seventh Big Ten weekly honor of her career and the second time she has been honored this season.

Rodriguez averaged 4.17 digs per set over the last week to lead the Huskers in consecutive road sweeps over No. 12 Oregon and Washington.

With that performance, Rodriguez passed Kayla Banwarth for second all-time at Nebraska in career digs with 1,731.

Justine Wong-Orantes is the career leader at Nebraska with 1,890.

The two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year had 14 digs in the sweep at Oregon as the Huskers held the Ducks to a .133 hitting percentage.

She followed that performance with 11 digs at Washington.

Led by Rodriguez, the Huskers lead all Big Ten teams with a .162% opponent hitting percentage on the season.

The No. 2-ranked Huskers (24-1) will head back to the Devaney Center on Thursday to take on Minnesota (16-8).
