LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska defensive back Quinton Newsome is entering his fifth and final season with the Huskers.

And defensive coordinator Tony White thinks the experienced defender could cap off his collegiate career as one of the best in the Big Ten.

“He’s got a chance to be one of the best DBs, I don’t say corners, DBs in the conference, period,” White said.

In four years with the Huskers, Newsome has played in 42 games, picking up a total of 112 tackles and three sacks.

White said that experience yields results, as Newsome stays calm and learns fast.

“It’s about him and his maturity and saying every play, he can be that guy, and he’s done a nice job so far,” White said.

During fall camp, White said Newsome has become more confident as a player.

“You knew he could play the ball,” White said. “You know he can backpedal, good feet. But he’s playing the run, and he’s physical on those blocks.”
