New Bolivian beetle named after famous Nebraska photographer
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A new species of beetle was found in the forests of Bolivia and has been named after a famous Nebraska native.
Joel Sartore is an award-winning photographer, University of Nebraska-Lincoln alum and founder of the National Geographic Photo Ark.
He has photographed thousands of species around the world.
The National Geographic Society announced Monday that the tiny brown beetle will be known as Sartore’s lesser rhino beetle (bothynus sartorei).
The beetle was published as a new species last week in the Journal of Insect Biodiversity.
