New Covenant Community Church ‘redeveloping lost values’ after fire in April
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The New Covenant Community Church gathered in the Scheels Center at Lincoln Christian for the first time Sunday morning.
Over 100 people came to worship after their church caught fire from a lightning strike at the end of April.
The church community has been gathering in the parking lot of the church since the fire.
Services will return to the north auditorium of the church, which only sustained a small amount of smoke damage, in four weeks.
The normal congregation space will remain under construction for at least a few months.
The pastors said they have continued to remind the members of the parish that it is just a building, and the people are the church.
Today is Pentecost Sunday, and the church is celebrating this day as a new beginning for rebuilding.
“In some ways, the fire has not just tested our values, but it is also helping us to redevelop the values that maybe we had lost a little bit,” said Brett Yohn, founder of New Covenant Community Church.
Yohn also said he is extremely grateful to LFR for their quick response time and getting the fire under control.
For now, they’re grateful for the opportunity to be able to gather as a community for services.
