New federal requirements regarding Medicaid will change eligibility for certain noncitizens starting next month
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced today that, starting Oct. 1, certain noncitizens will face changes in eligibility for Medicaid due to new federal requirements.
According to DHHS, the changes come from Section 71109 of H.R.1, also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Medicaid members and applicants who will still qualify for coverage as of Oct. 1 include green card holders, lawfully present non-citizens who are under the age of 19 or pregnant and more.
As of Oct. 1, individuals who don’t have lawful permanent resident status may no longer qualify for Medicaid if they have one out of a list of immigration statuses including victims of domestic violence applying under the Violence Against Women Act, parolees, and more.
