New federal rule requires hospitals to post online costs

A new federal rule is requiring all hospitals to post an online list of costs of their standard services.

Patients will be able to compare prices before seeking treatment.

Those prices are expected to be available Jan 1st.

Consumer advocates say it’s a step in the right direction, but doesn’t factor in different types of insurance and other factors that go into cost.
