Death penalty opponents are joining forces to keep the issue of the ballot.
Nebraskans for Public Safety say the death penalty is broken and doesn’t guarantee justice. The coalition includes Nebraskans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, the Nebraska Innocence Project, the ACLU, faith leaders and the Nebraska Criminal Defense Attorneys Association.
Supporters of the death penalty have launched a petition to allow voters a chance to decide its fate. They need to get at least 57 thousand signatures to get it on the ballot.
