‘New hope. New life’: Lincoln Catholic community inspiring hope for the Easter season
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — This Easter season, the Lincoln Catholic community is focusing on something simple, but powerful.
The community is leaning into the message of hope.
“It’s been a rough winter with the war in the Middle East, and all of the divisions and difficulties in our own country, the message of hope and looking to the future with hope is really what we’re trying to instill in our message for Easter this year,” said Bishop James Conley.
With so much happening around the world recently, this year’s message is as important as ever.
And so many of the Catholic organizations around Lincoln are coming together to make sure no one feels alone.
“For Easter, we kind of reset in a sense,” said Bishop Conley. “We also look at the big picture. Politics and social unrest are part of the world we live in. It’s a broken world, with a lot of woundedness, but we look at the bigger things. The things that really are at the heart of our faith, our hope, and that’s Jesus Christ our Lord who has risen from the dead, and brings the message of new hope and new life.”
The message of hope isn’t just staying inside Sunday services.
At Catholic Social Services, it shows up in everyday moments; helping families, answering calls and welcoming those in need.
The organization gave out Easter baskets for families to enjoy a homemade meal on Sunday.
“There’s this beautiful opportunity to not only encounter the other, but really deeply care about who the other is as a person and ask them how they’re doing and offer them a message of hope,” said Sarah Leon, a Client Relations Specialist at CSS. “I get this beautiful opportunity at the front to be able to know people’s stories, and people are going through difficult times right now.”
