New mural unveiled at Lincoln’s South Branch Library

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird helped dedicate a new mural on the west side of the South Branch Library on Wednesday.

Local artist Chloe Burgett’s mural was selected out of 37 entries.

Burgett is an artist and children’s book illustrator who lives in Lincoln with her husband, Seth.

The mural depicts squirrels reading on a front porch.

“This mural is inspired by the wonder and discovery that comes with reading,” Burgett said. “It also reflects the front porch culture that makes the Near South neighborhood so unique.”

The Country Club Neighborhood Association chipped in $10,000 to bring this project to life, with all administrative costs covered by the Lux Center for the Arts.

The community came together to paint panels of the 24-by-10-foot mural.
