New Nebraska incentive program to help you buy an electric car

Ever thought about buying an electric car? Now might be the best time to do it, as Nebraska Public Power along with other organizations is getting grant money to give to those looking to purchase an electric car to help curb the costs.
“Through our work with the Nebraska environmental trust and the Nebraska community energy alliance we’re able to offer those new incentives to help the electrification of the transportation industry,” Todd Duren of Nebraska Public Power said.
With this grant, you can receive $4,000 to put toward the purchase of an electric car.
As well as money to help with the installation of a charging station at your home, it’s all in an effort to decrease Nebraska’s carbon footprint.
“It’s really for the electrification of the transportation industry trying to get more vehicles and of course that is and also looking at the environment and looking at the decarburization of the environment,” Duren said.
Another positive to this program is that it helps the state keep up with some global competitors.
“The world is doing it. The world is electrifying all major global automakers and building electric vehicle fleets,” Anne McCollister of Nebraska Community Energy Alliance said.
And while there aren’t many electric cars on the streets of Nebraska right now they say it’s coming sooner rather than later.
“I think you’re going to see more and more electric vehicles I think the growth is huge we are seeing it throughout the entire united states and Nebraska is just going to be right along with that and you’ll see looking at your know double digit growth year after year in the addition of electric vehicles,” Duren said.
This is a program for those people who get power from Nebraska Public Power, but you can get involved with for more information you can go to https://www.nppd.com/save-money/incentives-programs#electric-vehicle.
