LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) Officials say an $11.4 million project will develop space at the University of Nebraska State Museum to show residents and others the evolution of life and natural systems in the region.

The theme for the project approved by the university Board of Regents last week is “Cherish Nebraska.” The University of Nebraska-Lincoln said in a news release Monday that the fourth floor of Morrill Hall will be transformed into state-of-the-art exhibits. They will include displays on geology, paleobiology, parasitology, weather and climate, and Nebraska biodiversity and ecosystems past and present.

The university says the project will be paid for by private donations. Construction is expected to start in 2016, with a public opening for the new exhibits in 2018.
