Nice weather, but air quality issues remain

Volleyball Day in Nebraska is right around the corner, and temperatures will be nice for those heading out to Memorial Stadium. We’ll see middle-80s for most of the afternoon. Temperatures fall into the 70s during the evening.

Volleyball Day Forecast 2023

Afternoon highs will likely be in the middle to upper-80s across the area. We’re looking at a high near 86° in Lincoln on Wednesday along with a south/southeast breeze.

Wednesday Forecast

While the weather does not present any problems, Mother Nature is not completely letting us off the hook. Canadian wildfire smoke will stick around, perhaps causing some air quality issues. Keep this in mind if you’re going to Memorial Stadium to attend the volleyball match.

Stormcast Near Surface Smoke Concentrations

An Air Quality Alert is in effect until Noon Thursday for central and eastern Nebraska. The potential exists for the Air Quality Index (AQI) to reach anywhere from moderate to unhealthy levels. Before you head outside, it’s not a bad idea to check the latest Air Quality Index at airnow.gov.

Air Quality Alert

As we head through the rest of the week, temperatures will steadily warm back up. The 90s return on Friday, and we may see highs inch closer to 100° over Labor Day weekend. On a few days, we could even flirt with record highs.
